Rainbow Junction Summer 2010 Highlights!

by dhna

The Dolphin Heights Neighborhood Association Rainbow Junction Summer Reading Program ended after an awesome 8 weeks on July 28th. In typical style, our last day was full of excitement and (of course) cake! The kids earned a very well deserved “field day” of fun consisting of a water balloon fight, scavenger hunt, tug-of-war, etc. Each student happily went home content carrying a sack full of prizes, a successful end to a successful summer.

Rainbow Junction grew by leaps and bounds this year: we had 29 kids enrolled in the program, we served 423 nutritious meals, and read 612 total books! We also worked in the community garden, visited the Dallas Museum of Art, and had a very special visit from the Dallas Public Library Bookmobile. Dolphin Heights should be so proud of all the effort the kids put into their work and their community this summer!

Special thanks goes out to all our volunteers and staff that made this possible—Alexandra, Christina, Ruth, and Celine—we would not have been able to it with out you! We hope that you all come back and see us again!

Lastly, best of luck to all the kids starting school this month—your intelligence and creativity did not go to waste this summer. I enjoyed seeing you all every day and I know you will all have a great school year!
